In term 2 ,Room 13 started with our Matiriki panels.Just in case you don't already know what Matiriki is ,it is the Maori New Year.Seven stars appear round-about the end of May(or the start of June)in the early morning and that symbolise the start of the year.So we celebrate it by making Matiriki panels. And this is how we did it...
1-You planed and draft.
2- You slowly but effectively you develop the panel.
3-You buy a board which is ruffly 123cm by 41cm across
4-Paint it completely black (we did this with black Indiana ink, mixed with black acrylic paint.
5-You tape over the completely dry paint
6-You you draw your design on top of the tape
7-Cut it out with a craft knife
8-Paint the in side with any colour
9-You peel the outside tape off and when you finish that you can varnish it.
In case you wanted to know here is a description of mine...
TOP-We divided it into 3 parts so my first part is labelled as NEW GROWTH.I did 3 koros the purple and represents physical growth. The green one represent inner growth and the last gold one represents religious growth.
MIDDLE-I did 4 crosses ,each represents me and my family members, the heart represents GOD and how we each have a special relationshipwhith him, because the second third is ME...
So i hope you understand and liked my panel ,i really enjoyed doing it hopifully you also try it:);)
